UBIQUITOUS NATURE uses the "zigzag" or "chevron" pattern to represent nature in a purely abstract way, without having reference to foreground, background, or a middle ground. Within this series of paintings, the process of random selection solidifies the idea of nature. By using a numbered color wheel and a random number generator app that was downloaded onto my i-phone, i was a able to devise a system of random selection of color . This app randomly selects a number that is used to correspond back to the number on the color wheel. The color wheel which consists of over 200 samples and each line is not repeated so, every line of color in the painting is individually mixed. I reference the numbered color wheel and then from there I get the color of paint. Starting from the top down, every line of the zigzag pattern is randomly selected by the number generator app and it is then individually painted. Not knowing how the painting will look until it is completely finished is the aspect of the process that is very intriguing. This process is representative of all the randomness that nature has to offer, of all the beautiful colors that nature provides—the random selection of beauty.
